In the South African environment, various studies have identified “business or general management” as one of the high demand career fields. The latest jobs indexes indicate that particularly middle and departmental managers are among the most in-demand skills levels in the country at the moment. These indexes, furthermore, have identified middle and senior managers as among the top eight jobs of the future. This course will address all these basic managerial principles and empower all managers, irrespective of which industry or level, with the necessary fundamental management skills and competencies.
What is commonly referred to as “management” is an umbrella term that encompasses a large spectrum of specific management fields. Management research identified 52 management fields, spanning general and business management to management in specific industries such as finance, marketing, logistics, hospitality, manufacturing, property and even administration. This course provides you with fundamental knowledge and understanding of general and functional management terminology, concepts, principles and operations. By the end of the course, you should have the tools to manage effectively in a range of industry contexts and at various managerial levels, as well as understand why and how to apply sound business ethics and corporate governance.
Dr. Deon van der Merwe holds a D.Litt. et Phil. in Psychology and started his career in higher education in 1989 as a student counsellor at the former Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), now the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
